So what does every transplanted New Yorker miss?........Good pizza, real bagels and Chinese food, that's what. For the first two you're on your own, but the Chinese......Have I got a place for you! Called Grand Lake Dim Sum and located at the end of the world, on Okeechobee Blvd. west of Jog, this fluorescent lit strip mall wonder is the place to be.
While waiting for our order to be taken, the crispy noodles and the warm, sweet tea hit the spot. After careful consideration of the more than 25 (!) appetizers, the Sisters' Dim Sum order consisted to two very good, very hot egg rolls and three very large fried shrimp balls (with no filler). Brought out one at a time and served with small dishes of sweet 'duck sauce' and hot mustard. As with most Chinese restaurants, the menu is enormous and I think anyone would be hard pressed not to find something to their liking. The Sisters chose one dish of Roast Pork and Bean Sprouts and to add a little heat, one dish of Chicken with Garlic Sauce. The roast pork was plentiful; the bean sprouts crunchy. The other had lots of chicken with still-fresh-looking vegetables all in a pungent and spicy brown sauce. We ate our fill and still took home half.
So, take a ride, don't bother to change (it's a 'flip-flop' kind of place), and enjoy.
The Last Word: no sweets were offered, but I don't think the Sisters could have fit it in anyway.
