Maison Carlos - WPB

Like going to a friend's house for dinner, Maison Carlos was friendly, inviting and the Sisters were very happy to be there.  Not much going on when we showed up at 6:30 so we had our pick of tables, but by seven the place was a beehive of activity.

As soon as we were seated a plate of fried (not breaded), lightly salted, zucchini chips were on the able. They are delicious and we 'ate the whole thing'. The table rolls came next, hot from the oven. The Sisters don't usually rave about bread, with so many other things in the offering of an evening. So the Sisters were either really impressed or very hungry. We were off to an excellent start! The first thing the Sisters ordered from the menu was Clams Casino. It's been years since the Sisters had this dish, and we have to say it was worth the wait. Little Neck Clams with garlic, bacon and lemon; truly wonderful. The downside is that little necks, as the name implies, are small. The Sisters could have consumed a few dozen without any trouble. Scallopini deVitello Picatta was the first entree ordered. Fork tender veal, made with lemon and capers in a white wine (maybe Sherry?) sauce. Also on the plate were just-cooked green beans and pave potatoes (sort of scalloped, cut to shape and browned). Nothing but 'this is sooo good' was heard, and heard more than once! We were doing so well, that the Sisters couldn't pass up the restaurants signature dish of Truffle-Lobster 'Mac and Cheese'. Served piping hot (too hot really) in its' own casserole dish, the pasta was smothered in a blend of underplayed craft cheeses which didn't overpower the star of this dish......Lobster, sweet and tender, and plenty of it.  When I say plenty, I mean chunks as big as an infant's fist!

The service was excellent; lots of repeat business (always a good sign); not the best of neighborhoods, but street parking; all in all the Sisters think this small (less than a dozen tables) local place is a 'must try'. You won't be disappointed.  Reservations are a must.

The Last Word: One Sister really wanted the Creme Brule, which turned out to be pudding and not custard (again).  The Creme Brule Snob Sister couldn't resist the 'I told you so', but all was forgiven when our server brought over a complimentary after-dinner Limoncello!
