Located in the Marriott Hotel (I know, I know - hotel food) don't dismiss this eatery just yet. It's large bar area is full of nooks and crannies as well as open space to afford a place for everyone. The spacious contemporary dining area and wide booth tables is much more comfortable then you would think.
Starting with the Farm Greens selection of a Roasted Beet Salad we were pleasantly surprised when it arrived in two portions instead of the Sisters sharing one plate. With fresh greens, red and yellow beets, goat cheese and a really good dressing, the Sisters were off to a good start. The Small Bites section gave one Sister the Seared Tuna; a not-too-spicy ginger vinaigrette, a not-crazy-about udon noodle salad, garden radishes and a tuna so rare it looked like beef! The hungry Sister went with the Large Bites selection of Palmetto Creek Pork Chop. This free range all natural chop was everything you would hope for. Thick, juicy and oh so flavorful. The spicy corn puree was a great complement, and the fresh curly endive (not a favorite) was better for the huckleberry vinaigrette. All in all...yum.
Bistro Ten Zero One advertises itself as a farm-to-table, local-when-you-can-get-it restaurant. Take this seriously. After dinner the Sisters walked around the hotel grounds for a few minutes. A lovely setting. Comfy chairs, sparkling lights, palm trees. And in the middle is the Chef's garden! Blooming with herbs, root vegetables and all sorts of greens; it was an unexpected and happy surprise.
The Last Word: after some deliberation, we settled on the Key Lime Creme Brulee. One Sister, a creme brulee snob, insists that it should look like opaque jello and taste like egg custard. This 'brulee' was tasty but lost points for it light pudding consistency.
